FEC are undertaking the one of the largest regeneration schemes in Europe. In a joint venture alongside Manchester City Council, the Northern Gateway will deliver circa 15,000 homes alongside new leisure and commercial spaces.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Development Manager, the Assistant Development Manager will support the Senior Development Manager in the delivery of projects. Responsibilities include: cost planning, marketing, programming, procurement and management. Ideally you will have experience in the property sector however this is not essential for the right candidate as on the job training can be provided.


The duties of the Assistant Development Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist Development Team on the delivery of residential and mixed-use projects to project completion including all aspects of development planning, design and delivery
  • Assist Development Team on the co-ordination of planning and design including planning applications
  • Assist in the coordination and reporting of project budget, financial performance, cost and risk – this will involve liaison with FEC’s Commercial Team
  • Work with the Commercial Team to inform budget preparation and budget reporting.
  • Support and attend development and design team meetings as required. This will include the preparation of agendas and minutes.
  • Aid in preparation of consultancy/ contract briefs, tender analysis and award.
  • Assist in the running of development appraisals.
  • Assist in instructing design teams, and dealing with contractors, legal teams, agents and key stakeholders.
  • Assist in management of property and tenancy activities.
  • Work with FEC’s development partners as required.

Personal Specifications

The successful candidate will have previous experience assisting with UK residential developments. You will be able to work within a high performing team and pick up new skills quickly. A relevant property qualification/degree will be advantageous and essential to have excellent verbal and written communication skills:


  • High calibre graduate
  • At least 2 years’ experience in professional / executive environment
  • Self-starter – proactive, initiative, driven, diligent, hardworking
  • Keen and willing to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work within a dynamic team environment

Preferred but not essential:

  • Qualification in building, engineering, project management urban design, business, land or other relevant discipline and/or equivalent industry experience
  • Understanding of / experience in development management
  • Understanding of / experience in supporting project delivery in the UK property / construction industries
