The Role

Reporting to the Head of HR, the IT manager will be responsible for coordinating, planning, and supporting the business with IT-related activities. You will help determine the IT needs of an organisation and are responsible for implementing IT equipment and systems to fulfil the business’s information system requirements.

The scope of an IT manager’s responsibilities varies. In some cases, the focus is solely on IT helpdesk support. In other cases, the focus can be on managing our third-party IT support providers who provide IT support and IT system implementation services to the business.


The duties of the IT Manager include, but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the IT helpdesk management for all IT related incidents across two office locations and when necessary, escalating to the external third-party support partners.
  • Managing the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, upgrades, and support of the business IT systems and equipment. This includes operating systems, servers, PCs, software apps, telephones, and peripherals.
  • Providing expert IT advice and support when systems are being upgraded or installed, or when system migrations or system maintenances are being carried out.
  • Overseeing the development and enhancement of systems and integrating new systems with those existing.
  • Working with senior staff to develop plans and strategies so user effectiveness is improved, and innovation encouraged throughout the business.
  • Liaising regularly with executive and senior management as well as systems users.
  • Developing standard operating procedures allied to best practice, and ensuring written protocols and guidelines are provided for IT staff and all end-users.
  • Ensuring written documentation is created and maintained, including user and system manuals, change management, license agreements and all documentation relating to modifications and upgrades.
  • Keeping up-to-date with the most recent technologies and advising on what new technological solutions and their implementation will meet business and systems requirements.
  • Negotiating with suppliers of hardware and software for the best deals, including external support, and responsible for contracting consultants and negotiating service agreements.
  • Creating a budget for each IT project as well as managing the financial aspects of the entire IT department such as purchases and ongoing budgeting.
  • Acting Business Data Protection Officer / GDRP Compliance Officer, ensuring the business systems comply with current legislation.
  • Acting cybersecurity analyst, performing risk assessments, patch management, design and implementing security measures to ensure security vulnerabilities the business faces are reviewed regularly and risks reduced.
  • Producing IT board reports when required.
  • Responsible for all IT Administration

Personal Specifications

The successful candidate will hold the following skills and experience:

Essential – 

  • 2-5 years minimum experience in IT management
    • Ability to lead projects and delivery within programmed timescales
    • Supply chain management including third-party support companies
    • Managing and monitoring yearly budgets
    • Good organisational skills
    • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills
    • Excellent all-round communication skills
  • 5 years minimum hands-on IT support experience
    • Hands-on IT infrastructure experience, and ideally a strong technical background providing onsite & remote support.
  • Management and support of;
    • Firewall/VPN Networks
    • Office 365
    • Microsoft Teams
    • VMware / Hyper-V
    • Windows Server 2012/2016 including Active Directory and Group Policy
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Microsoft Exchange Online
    • Veeam Backup / vProtect or similar backup solution
    • Cyber Security Solutions (Trend Micro / Sophos or similar products)
    • Windows 10 Desktop Environments

Preferred but not essential –

  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations Administration & support experience
  • Autodesk Suite (Revit, Navisworks, and AutoCAD) support experience
  • Asta / Elecosoft PowerProject / Microsoft Project support experience
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Power BI
