FEC has appointed Midgard, the main contracting division of JRL Group, to deliver Consort Place at Canary Wharf London which includes the 65 storey Aspen residential tower. This follows on from the piling and basement works contract awarded to J. Reddington, of JRL Group in September 2019.
With a GDV of £470 million, the circa 80,000 sqm project is situated in one of London’s most distinctive, fast changing and progressive areas, between Canary Wharf and the Isle of Dogs. When complete, Consort Place will comprise 634 apartments, a 231-room four-star hotel, a health centre, an educational facility and the reinstatement of the historic North Pole public house.
Midgard will deliver the buildings on a turnkey basis with completion of the 65-storey landmark residential tower. Midgard will use the Group’s internal specialist divisions for the sub-structure and superstructure, unitised façade, MEP services, dry-lining and all cranage and hoisting equipment.
Previous projects for Midgard and the JRL Group include Regents Crescent, Paddington Gardens, Royal Mint Gardens, Brighton Marina, and the structure at the 78-storey Landmark Pinnacle.
Consort Place Project Director for FEC, Bruno Almeida Santo, commented: “The team at FEC has been working relentlessly during the past months, to appoint the Main Contractor for this prestigious development. We are delighted to welcome Midgard/JRL Group as the strategic partner to deliver Consort Place, as they will bring a wealth of expertise in the residential construction sector.”
Nick Poon, Head of Projects for FEC added: “The team has formed a strong working relationship with JRL on the initial building works, and this next stage of construction will quite literally take this to new heights – some 65 storeys in fact.”
Kevin Keegan, Director at Midgard / JRL Group comments: “We are proud to be working on these iconic structures for a visionary developer. These buildings will be true landmarks on the London skyline.”
The central vision for Consort Place is to create an unrivalled lifestyle hub for the new residents and the local community. Reaching for new heights, the development will be spread across two tower buildings of 65 and 35 storeys. Specifically, the east tower will feature the development’s landmark on the London skyline – the Aspen tower, including contemporary apartments, the design-led four-star hotel and a modern health centre, while the west tower will be home to 139 affordable apartments, marking the long-term commitment to the enhancement of the South Quay area of Canary Wharf.
Both the residential properties and the hotel at Consort Place are designed by UK based architects, Pilbrow and Partners. Interiors will be created by Hirsch Bedner Associates (HBA Residential) , the prestigious international interior design company. The four-star hotel will be managed by hotel group Dorsett, and compliments its existing hotel portfolio in London: Dorsett Shepherds Bush and Dorsett City in Aldgate. Highly regarded for its quality and customer service Dorsett has an international footprint in 13 major cities across the world with a total of 24 properties.
Consort Place has convenient transport links with Canary Wharf underground station served by the Jubilee Line in Zone 2, and the DLR services on its doorstep, whilst London City Airport is less than five miles away by car. Further still, there is the Thames Clipper river bus service, which departs every 20 minutes, visiting over 39 piers. The forthcoming Elizabeth Line (Crossrail) will allow commuters to reach Liverpool Street within seven minutes, Farringdon within nine minutes and Heathrow Terminal 1, 2 and 3 within 40 minutes. This new railway line will provide fast access to Bond Street’s luxury boutiques, the shopper’s paradise that is Westfield Stratford, and of course, some of Europe’s largest corporate head quarters in Liverpool Street.
