Foundation – the popular Manchester coffee house and eatery – is set to open this Friday 15th September at Meadowside, and to celebrate, it will be offering all customers 50% off hot drinks and 25% off food during its first week.
Situated within the Gate and Stile development next to the Red Bank neighbourhood, part of Far East Consortium’s (FEC) Victoria North regeneration project, the site will be the local coffee chain’s fourth location in the city.
The new 2,100 sq ft store overlooking Angel Meadow Park, will offer an array of hot and cold beverages as well as a full all-day brunch menu, with items including the Foundation Fry Up and sticky toffee French toast.
Foundation’s original Northern Quarter venue on Lever Street built up a cult following and was quickly followed by additional sites on Whitworth Street and Portland Street, after the local, independent team built a reputation for establishing bustling destinations for coffee and brunch as well as evening events and activations.
In expanding into Manchester’s Red Bank neighbourhood, the independent coffee brand joins a growing community of much-loved, local vendors including renowned spatzle restaurant The Sparrows, indie street food venue GRUB, Green Arches brewery and bakery Half Dozen Other.
Foundation is also planning a number of exclusive discounts for residents of Gate and Stile, as well as a partnership with SQUID – a leading digital loyalty card platform – to offer a loyalty programme that will operate across all four of its city centre sites.
More announcements are set to follow as part of FOUND, the experience-led retail and leisure meanwhile-use strategy from developer FEC, that has seen Red Bank develop into a hotspot of some of Manchester’s most-loved independent restaurants and venues. MeadowSide also provides a wealth of community events for local residents and the wider city centre community, including an artisan market with stalls run by local, independent vendors.
New Town, Red Bank, and MeadowSide all form part of FEC’s commitment to creating a burgeoning community of residents with its landmark development, Victoria North. Through Victoria North, 15,000 new homes will be brought to Manchester city centre over the next decade.
Katie Lea, design director at Foundation, said: “We’re excited to now bring Foundation to this part of the city centre and look forward to becoming a genuine neighborhood hub where we can welcome the local community and get to be a part of the regeneration of this area of our city.
“Our large spaces are designed with flexibility in mind, so they are great places to work and play, from early in the morning into the evening seven days a week. From coffee and brunch to drinks and events.”
Jake Scott-Thrale, asset manager at FEC, said: “Our partnership with Foundation epitomises our approach for our commercial strategy – working with independent and entrepreneurial businesses to bring some of the city’s most exciting brands to the residents of Meadowside and beyond. We are incredibly excited to be working with Dominic and the Foundation Coffee Team who have established a fantastic independent Mancunian brand.
“By introducing more popular, local brands, we’re looking forward to more people discovering this part of the city centre.”
The 20-storey Gate and 17-storey Stile development forms part of FEC’s £200m MeadowSide scheme. Gate & Stile will be FEC’s second completed development in Manchester following the delivery of Mount Yard at MeadowSide last summer. More than 85 per cent of the 286-apartment development has been sold.
